To the Top from Nowhere is the story of how Sibusiso Vilane grew from humble beginnings into a world-class climber and adventurer. To date he’s summitted Mount Everest (twice), completed a self-supported walk to the South Pole with his Team Extreme colleague, Alex Harris, and has joined the select group of mountaineers who are members of the Seven Summits club (having climbed the highest peaks on all seven continents). He is a speaker, and continues to climb mountains – and each year leads the

This book is about Sibu’s early years, the people who helped change the course of his life and career, his remarkable physical and mental capacity to beat the odds and, of course, his event-filled climbs to the top of the world’s highest mountain.

About the author:

Motivational and inspirational speaker, Sibusiso Vilane started climbing mountains after meeting John Doble in 1996. After summiting peaks in the Drakensberg, Sibusiso summited Kilimanjaro in 1999 and went on to the Himalayas in 2002, where he successfully climbed Pokalde, Lobujé and Island Peak in preparation for Everest. These were the only mountains that Sibusiso had climbed before his Everest attempt. On 26 May 2003 he stood on the summit of Mount Everest and became the first black African to achieve this feat. He walked down the mountain a transformed man. He did it again in 2005 by climbing Everest from the North side. He has climbed all the seven summits and a number of peaks in the Alps (the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and the Eiger via the Mittelegi Ridge). He has walked to both North and South Poles. Sibusiso keeps fit by running marathons and ultra marathons every year including Two Oceans and the Comrade marathons.
